6 Writing Resources to Help you Start Writing

I have an on again and off again relationship with writing. Sometimes I am incredibly motivated and decide that I am going to write a series of novels and short stories. Most of the time, I don't even think about writing. For the last couple of months, I have tried to be more consistent with my writing and improve my relationship with my writing muse and actually complete some stories. I started with NaNoWriMo (National Writing Month) and got about halfway through my goal and wrote almost every day.

I am going to try to do that again this month with the lesser known Camp NaNoWriMo (link is here) that is hosted every April and July. You pick how many words you want to write during this month and it is not restricted to novel writing. Right now, I am going for about 500 words for a potential novel and 250 words for some of my other writing endeavors (including this blog).

I have compiled a list of some resources that I have used, and will continue to use as I continue to work on my writing and I hope will be helpful to you as well!

Writing Prompts and Exercises:
  • Lovewritingadventure - This blog does a fantastic job of giving you writing exercises and then walking you through them with examples. If you are unsure as how to approach your writing exercises, this is the place to start for inspiration!
  • Writer's Digest - I mentioned this site in an earlier post ( How to be Creative in the Month of March) but I think it is worth mentioning again. Writer's Digest posts a new creative writing prompt every Tuesday on its site. It also is a great resource for writing tips and tricks.
  • Writeworld posts different writing exercises regularly. They come in the form of a sentence, a piece of music, a photo, or a piece of art.

  2. This is great! Thanks for posting all these resources... I have the same situation with writing. Sometimes I write a lot, sometimes not at all. My goal is to write a post on my blog at least twice a week, but my excuse for not always doing that is that I travel a lot! Not a good one. Yikes.

    1. Traveling is a completely valid excuse! I just have a lazy muse, but I am trying to get her to be more consistent!
