DIY Tassels and Coins Bracelet

I fall into obsessions. Sometimes it's spikes, sometimes it's crystals and lately it's been incredibly bright tassels (no joke - that red is ridiculously bright. The camera does not do it justice.) Add in the coins, it kind of gives the bracelet a Dolce & Gabbana/Mediterranean-esque feel? Right? Or am I reaching? Whether you agree or not, this is the perfect bracelet to herald in the summer!

I would also like to thank my friends Ayden and Laverne once again. They both helped out with the editing and Ayden took the lovely pictures of Laverne!

For this DIY, you will need:

  • Chain and a clasp or a bracelet
  • Pliers
  • Scissors
  • Jump rings
  • Embroidery thread
  • Coins
  • A small piece of cardboard (not pictured)
  • Glue (optional)

1.

Begin by cutting out a small piece of cardboard in the shape of a rectangle. This will determine the length of your tassels. Slant the corners of the cardboard so you can easily remove the tassel. Wrap the embroidery thread around the cardboard twenty times as shown above. When you are finished, cut off the end.

2.

Slide the loop off the cardboard. Using your pliers, attach a large jump ring to the top of the tassel. Cut another piece of the embroidery thread and wrap it around the top of the tassel. Make a knot. Cut off any excess thread and if you want, dab a little bit of glue on the knot. Ensure that the end of the tassel is even.

3.

Repeat the steps listed above to make the rest of your tassels.

4.

Attach the tassels to the chain on alternating sides of the chain. At this point, I decided to shorten my tassels and gave them all tassel haircuts!

5.

Using your pliers attach the coins on the opposite sides of the tassels. I used one large gold coin and a small silver coin on each side.

And Voila!

  1. Hi! I found your awesome DIY on Craftgawker (congrats!) and had to stop by and gush over how much I love this. I've been so inspired by D&G's Mediterranean pieces too (especially the coins! So fun!), and can't get over how perfect this is, especially with the addition of the tassels. Beautifully done!

    1. Amalia, you are too kind! Thank you so much! Dolce & Gabbana is such a great place for inspiration - I love how they add in the coins and bright colors!
